Wang Min Led Chinese Government Delegation to attend South
African Mining Indaba 2013
From Feb. 4 to 7, local time, South African Mining Indaba 2013 was held in Cape Town international conference center. More than 7500 people from over 100 countries and areas including government officials, geologists, international financiers, consultancy, and mining representatives participated the event. Wang Min, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources of China and Director of China Geological Survey led a government delegation to attend the event. On Feb. 5, local time, Wang Min delivered a speech during the "Non-Africa Government Forum", themed as “Promote Sino-Africa mining cooperation and new development". He suggested China and Africa should strengthen pragmatic mining cooperation and exchange between CHINA MINING and African Mining Indaba and jointly promote the healthy development of global mining industry.
South African Mining Indaba is the largest annual mining event in Africa, one of the world`s top four mining events, as famous as CHINA MINING. It has been annually held for 19 years. African Mining Indaba 2013 held such forums as Africa economic analysis of mining industry development, global mining commodity market and outlook, Africa mining exploration trends, changes of world iron ore supply, Africa mining industry and sustainable development, the challenges and opportunities faced by Africa’s mining industry in 2013, etc. More than 410 enterprises including international mining exploration and consultancy services, special equipment technology companies, financial banks attended the exhibition of Africa Mining Indaba.
In his speech, Wang Min introduced the overall good Chinese economy development situation, and expressed Chinese government`s confidence in realizing the sustainable development. He said during the past year of 2012, China`s mining industry had achieved good results such as the growth of mining investment, the new progress in mineral exploration, steady growth of mining production and minerals import, etc. However, as the world`s largest developing country, China`s economic development and the resource environment are still quite contradictory.
The Chinese government will promote the construction of ecological civilization, adhere to the basic state policy of resource conservation and environmental protection, explore domestic resources potential and improve the China mining’s comprehensive guarantee capability. To achieve that, the Chinese government will fully implement prospecting breakthrough strategy, vigorously develop the green mining, strength the management and service of geology and mineral resources, deepen the mining industry cooperation with foreign countries, and promote China’s economy and society to realize scientific development.
According to Wang Min, as the world economy presents the low speed growth, the global mining development prospects has attracted worldwide attention and the 2012 global mining industry performed well. Africa`s economic development tendency is very powerful and the prospect is remarkable. Africa`s economic will play a more important role in the world economy. China and Africa share a time-honored friendship. Sino-Africa new strategic partnership has entered a new development stage and Sino-Africa cooperation forum vigorously promoted the steady and rapid development of economy and trade between China and Africa. He suggested that all countries in the world should further strengthen the energy resources and mining investment cooperation to use global mineral resources effectively, solve practical problems properly such as market access and policy transparency and, remove the investment barriers. He also proposed that China and Africa should deepen the pragmatic cooperation in mining industry, carry out the relevant agreement of China-Africa forum, enlarge the scale of central Africa minerals trading and mining investment, promote the continuous growth of resources export income, strengthen the exchange and cooperation between CHINA MINING and African Mining Indaba.
