Sino-Canada Mining Investment Forum, a normalized platform between China and Canada mining cooperation, was held in Toronto on March 5th. It has become a fixed project in PDAC. The Canada’s mining companies introduced 28 mining projects at advanced stage to the China’s mining companies and investors. These projects are distributed in 9 Canadian provinces, including precious metal, non-ferrous metals, iron and rare earth.

Jiang Jianjun, the head of China delegation and director of the Department of International Cooperation & Science and Technology under Ministry of Land and Resources, PRC, said in his speech that China would further strengthen the mining open up and cooperation in mining areas, make the efforts to strengthen development and cooperation with foreign mining circles. He also encouraged and supported domestic enterprises with good credit and strong power to participate in international mining cooperation, actively develop mining cooperation projects which are conducive to local sustainable development. China and Canada are both important mining countries in the world and have strong complementarity and broad cooperation chance. He suggested that we should grasp the current opportunities for cooperation, strengthen project-matching, and promote substantial projects cooperation; consolidate cooperation platform, promote the normal communication between enterprises, make full use of cooperative mechanism between departments and strengthen the two-way cooperation services and guidance; broaden cooperation area, expand cooperation in green mining areas, fully develop the potential of the green mining technology and governance of mining environment.

Anil Arora, Assistant Deputy Minister of Minerals and Metals Sector, Natural Resources, Canada, introduced Canada’s superior resource conditions and mining investment environment, and welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest there. He specially pointed out that Canada would do more research of energy and resources in the north of Canada in the next 5 years and get more geosciences data to provide the basis for more accurate decision.

Yu Jianwei, Commercial Consul of the Consulate General of China in Toronto, suggested that Chinese enterprises should fully carry out prophase investigation  and field study and minimize the risk as much as possible. He also suggested Chinese enterprises “when in Rome do as Romans do”, run legally, be deferential to local rules and regulations and take aborigines, environmental protection, labor and community contribution etc., into consideration.
