China is Building Kiloton of Uranium Mine

The reporter learned from the “Uranium” forum which was held on Oct.20,2014 of CHINA MINING Congress and Expo that the resources of natural uranium exploration and development of China had major breakthrough, and kiloton uranium mines were under construction. According to Chen Yuehui, Deputy Director of Geology and Mineral Resource Depart. of China National Nuclear Corporation, the amount of proven additional resources of domestic natural uranium since 2000, was more than the total amount of the last 45 years which laid a good foundation for accelerating the construction of international standards and kiloton uranium mines in China
It was reported that the uranium mine base was developed steadily, and the development of natural uranium was accelerated. At present, five in situ leaching mining engineering of China National Nuclear Corporation are under construction synchronously in the north area. For example, Mengqiguer project has been completed the first phase for 500 tons, and has entered the production stage. The second phase of the project has also started in construction, which is a thousand tons of mine. At the same time, in the south, the mines with large scale, and good resource endowment grand like Ju Long’an,and Xu Jia and others are also in the infrastructure construction
Chen Yuehui introduced that, the overseas development of resources of natural uranium in China had made positive progress. For example, the Azeri Rick uranium mining and metallurgy project is China`s first overseas investment project for uranium resources development, designed an annual output of 678 tons of uranium metal, which had accumulated nearly 600 tons of uranium metal production. China had also acquired 25% equity of Paladin company LH holdings, which can obtain annual 550 tons of inviolable rights and products. The first batch of 230 tons of products would be delivered in October. In addition, China had implemented a large uranium exploration base of 40000 tons of resource in Namibia, and had obtained the mining license; in Zimbabwe a preliminary estimate of the amount of uranium resources of uranium mine project was more than 3000 tons; China has obtained 18 mineral rights included Gul Van Burak uranium projects in Mongolia, controlling the amount of uranium resources of nearly 10000 tons.
Expert analysis, in twentieth Century, as one of the greatest creations, nuclear energy is still an indispensable important energy: the expected amount will reach to 87,000 tons in 2020, a 28% increase over 2012; the global uranium production increase from 50,000 tons in 2012 to 59,000 tons in 2015, and by 2020, it will reach to 76,000 tons. In domestic, in 2020 China`s installed capacity of nuclear power will reach 58,000,000 kilowatts. The expert thinks, the domestic natural uranium industry is still in the period of strategic opportunity. Although the price of uranium temporarily at a low ebb, but with the decrease of the low-cost uranium resources and the alleviation of the pressure of the second release of uranium resources, the uranium industry will gradually usher a new round of rising cycle. The prices of natural uranium in long-term are also expected to have a significant rebound. （translated by TLRHVC）
