CHINA MINING Congress and Expo 2014 opened in Tianjin on October 21st with more than 7000 officials, scholars and business representatives from more than 50 countries and regions in the world participating in the forum and exhibition.

This conference is jointly hosted by Ministry of Land and Resources, Tianjin Municipal Government and China Mining Association under the theme of “Sustainable Development through Innovation”, aimed at enhancing international mining  cooperation and promoting mineral transformation and sustained development by strengthening mineral innovation-driven development capability.

At the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Jiang Daming, Minister of Ministry of Land and Resources and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of CHINA MINING Congress and Expo 2014, said that mineral resources are very important material foundation of the economic and social development and are the blood and food of industry. In a long term, the world economy is fluctuating and mineral development is in volatility, which demands that every country should join hands together and strive for motivating sustained mineral development. Particularly, we should fortify the confidence in development,  open up the source and regulate the flow and obtain sustainable mineral development by driving innovation .

He said that opening up the source and regulating the flow should be attached with equal importance in exploration because mineral resources are non-renewable. China will continuously implement the strategic action of comprehensive prospecting, and sufficiently mobilize and encourage relevant parties to involve in prospecting and exploration, and strengthen the prospecting of mineral resources, minerals in short supply and strategically emerging industries in order to make new breakthroughs in mineral exploration and constantly improve the ability of domestic resource guaranteeing.

As global mining industry is stuck in deep adjustment, commodity price continues to decline, it appears more and more important to conduct mining cooperation among countries.

The Hon. Mr. Denis Khramov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, believed that Russia has unique mineral resources and China is a reliable partner of Russia. He said that conducting and enlarging collaboration with Chinese colleagues and friends is the priority of Russian foreign policies and economic and trade cooperation. Khramov said that China and Russia will carry out cooperation in geological exploration.

H.E. Mr. Jorge Heine, Ambassador of Chilean Embassy to the People’s Republic of China also expressed enthusiasm of mineral cooperation with China. He said that since the signing of a free trade agreement, trading between two countries has maintained an annual growth speed of 30% more or less. Chile, rich in copper mine, sells one third of its copper products to China. He hoped that more Chinese companies will go to Chile to invest.

A series of important forums and lectures would be hosted during the congress. Meanwhile, China Geological Survey, affiliated by Ministry of Land and Resources, would release a wholesale of new fundamental geological information in public, including JPEG 2000 mapping information in 1: 50 000 regional geological survey, and JPEG 400 information of major metallogenic belts in 1:50 000 mineral resource geological survey and detailed information of 900,000 drills.
