Good morning!
It is my honor to be invited to the opening ceremony of CHINA MINING Conference and Exhibition and to meet friends from mining industry.
On behalf of the International Union of Geological Sciences, I, one of the co-sponsors of CHINA MINING, would like to express my sincere congratulations to its holding!
As the world's top mining related institution, IUGS established in 1961 is the representative of the global geological research institutions. It is a non-governmental, non-political, non-profit organization that represents members of 123 countries and regions and 56 affiliated international associations. Our goal is to promote the development of earth sciences, support scientific researches especially those related to the entire earth system, protect the results of scientific research and apply them to the protection of natural resources, which are conducive to narrowing distances of countries in the field if economy, as well as to strengthening people's awareness and popularizing the knowledge of geological sciences.
As the Earth's population continues to grow and the demands of developing to increase, our primary task and main challenge become the guarantees of new materials and new energy supplies in the future, the maintenance of good environment, and the advantages for sustainable development of society. Innovation and cooperation are goals not only for the mining industry, but also for our Union. We hope good paths and methods will be discovered to promote the development of mining science.
In the past few years, IUGS has been focusing on the strategic development and planning of natural resources. We hope to bring hopes for future generations within ten years, carry out a series of scientific research, cover miscellaneous new fields, ensure the security of mineral and natural resources, and reserve them for future generations. We would like to emphasize that, as links among industry cooperation, academic research, geological survey, geological and resource exploration, our Union carried out the first activity at CHINA MINING Conference and Exhibition 2014, in which we offered keen cooperation with countries at a Forum titled “Raw Material Supply” which covered the supply of raw materials for the next generation, the mapping of geological graphics, the formulation of development model, geological exploration, the providing of geological data, and other technological innovations.
Scientific and technological progress has played a huge role in improving resource supply, protecting environment and reducing risks. In the past few years, China has achieved great success in many realms, especially in mining-related aspects as scientific research, energy development, and geological exploration. The China Branch of IUGS has also worked closely with relevant departments and achieved very fruitful results, especially in the field of natural resources, which has achieved fruitful results in the past few years. Here, I want to thank all of you for your efforts.
Thanks for the efforts made by relevant institutions in China's geological and resource fields, we are very willing to share with you the relevant information we have obtained around the world, and build a larger and wider platform to benefit the relevant industries in China. CHINA MINING with the theme of “New Pattern of Opening, New Model for Cooperation” provides us with a significant platform for information sharing, cooperation and closer communication. Therefore, our Union is very willing to make contributions to the continuous development of the mining industry and the higher quality of life with everyone here.
