In recent years, with the accelerating pace of construction and development of the Yangtze River Basin, a series of serious problems such as shrinking wetland area, ecosystem degradation, biodiversity loss, capacity reduction of water transfer and flood control, and serious water pollution have become increasingly prominent. The report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized that the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt should be promoted with the guidance of "jointly grasping great protection and not engaging in grand development". The "Geosciences Yangtze River Project" was initiated in the context of environmental governance, the urgent need to safeguard the ecological security in the Yangtze River basin and the needs of the national economic development strategy. In the medium and long term, the plan will play an important foundation, supportive and pivotal role in the construction of ecological civilization in the Yangtze River Basin and even in the beautiful China.
"Earth Science Yangtze River Project" in China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) start
The "Geosciences Yangtze River Project" is a strategic science and technology innovation plan for the Yangtze River economic belt initiated by China University of Geosciences. It aims to implement the spirit of the 19th Plenum of the Party, implement major national development strategies, integrate superior resources at home and abroad, and solve the problems faced by the Yangtze River Basin The geological resources and ecological environment to provide scientific support. At the meeting, Wang Yanxin, president of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), introduced the strategic concept of the program and emphasized that the "Geosciences Yangtze River Project" will be a long-term plan for serving the country's development strategy and will unify the development strategy of the school itself into a national development strategy And will also help to create an open academic base focusing on regional and resource convergence and promoting the multidisciplinary integration of geology and non-geosciences and deep and shallow geo-resources and environmental studies.
It is reported that the plan will focus on two research directions: First, the global changes and major engineering-driven changes in the Yangtze River Basin, forecasting and its countermeasures and management; second is the formation and evolution of the in-depth the earth's deep geological processes and major geological events. These two directions are the research fields covering more than 80% of the research personnel of China University of Geosciences and the advantages of China University of Geosciences on this project.
At the launching ceremony, a consultative committee and expert committee of "Geosciences Yangtze River Project" was set up. Academician Chen Xuan was hired as the chairman of the advisory committee and Xia Jun academician was appointed as the chairman of the expert committee. The Guidance on Geosciences Yangtze River Project was released and made clear The overall goal of the plan from 2017 to 2030; held a scientific inspection flag ceremony.
