---Prospects of CHINA MINING 2013

2012 is not a good year for global economy. Europeans are still trapped in the debt crisis. In America, the influence of the subprime crisis hasn’t gone far away, “finance cliff” is followed subsequently. 2013 is still a year of opportunity and challenge coexisting. There are still many uncertain elements of economic development, especially international environment are still full of variation, which not only test China economy but also China’s mining.

Besides, although it is possible that those uncertain elements in the world will be extending, enterprises of global mining and mental businesses are all showing positive judgment for economy development and trend of taking big step.

Find opportunity in market downturn

In the past year of 2012, influenced by the drop of commodities price and uncertainty of global economy, the whole need of global mining market shrank. Current mining development faces not only the challenge of technology, cost and regular change but also the stress of existing and developing at the background of economic recession. Low tide period is the stage of survival of the fittest. The integration and restructure within the business will bring the opportunity and challenge for mining business. Some people think that the advantages of China’s mining enterprises will more highlight in sluggish market, so China’s mining enterprises should assess the situation and then take action boldly to get more power in the international mineral market.

Rod Thomas, the vice president of PDAC said on the 81st PDAC that although the development of global mining is slower than before, the basic needs in the market are still strong, which is good for the mining prospect. “China’s economy is still growing, may be a little slower than before, but America’s economy is becoming better slowly, so there is no big change on the whole” he said, “In a word, I think the situation of mining business is still relatively positive”. 

Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the premier of the State Council, said in the Letter of congratulation which was sent when he was vice premier of the State Council to CHINA MINING 2012 that mining exploration is the forerunner of economy development and economy development is the driver of mining prosperity. Currently, world economy recovery is difficult. Industrial restructuring and new technology revolution is progressing. Mining development faces challenge but also exists opportunity. International mining circle should base on the long-term, join hands together, open up and cooperation, benefit mutually on demand and supply,  maintain the demand and supply of major minerals and the market steady and accelerate global economy to develop steadily by the healthy mining development. 

 At present, stimulated by the industry professionals’ increasing confidence to mining market and world’s growing needs to basic mineral resources, global mining is recovering and the prospects of mining market is positive. However, if the supply of resources couldn’t meet the needs, especially the needs of emerging market, mining market will face new challenge. Experts of mining are very confident to emerging country, especially the growth of China’s economy. According to the data from China`s Ministry of Commerce, China’s direct oversea investment has ranked the fifth in the world since 2010. The investments are mainly on mining, energy, finance and manufacture. China government encourages state-owned and private enterprises to “go out” to invest oversea mining resources.

In 2012, China’s mining showed the characters like investments kept growing, new results were achieved in mineral exploration, productions of mines were growing steady and the import of minerals kept increasing etc. However, China, as the biggest developing country, its contradiction between economy development and resources environment is still prominent. Chinese government will strongly boost the construction of ecological civilization, stick to the basic policy of saving resources and protecting environment, stick to explore the potential of domestic resources and improve comprehensive support capacity. Under the background of global economy graduate recovery, China will stick to the development strategy of opening up and Chinese government will carry out strategic action of prospecting breakthrough in full scale, develop green mining, strengthen management and service of geology and mineral resources, extend mining resources cooperation with foreign countries continuously and promote reasonable development of economic society.

CHINA MINING builds the cooperation bridge

Hosted by the Ministry of Land & Resources, Tianjin Municipal People’s Government and China Mining Association, the 15th CHINA MINING Congress and Expo 2013 will be held at Tianjin Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center. CHINA MINING 2013 has caused great influence in home and abroad and will build bridge of cooperation between China and foreign countries. Many countries with rich mining resources have expressed the intention of organizing delegations to attend CHINA MINING 2013. 

As a global mining summit forum and exhibition, CHINA MINING Congress and Expo has become one of the world’s top mining events, and one of the world’s largest mining exploration, development and trading platforms, covering all aspects of the whole mining industry chain, including geological survey, exploration and development, mining rights trading, mining investment and financing, smelting and processing, mining techniques and equipment, mining services, etc. playing an active promotion role in creating exchange opportunities and enhancing mutual cooperation between domestic and foreign mining enterprises.

Since first held in 1999, the scale and influence of CHINA MINING have increasingly extended. In CHINA MINING 2012, there were more than 60000 participants from 57 countries and regions, 429 exhibitors from home and abroad. In the project-matching signing ceremony, there were 89 projects from 30 countries matched successfully and the amount of signing reached 13.227 billion. It is said that the signing amount of CHINA MINING is growing at an average rate of 50%. 

The coverage of countries and regions that attended CHINA MINING 2012 is wider, and most of the countries were mining giants or with rich mining resources. Except the regular delegations from Canada, Australia, South Africa and Chile, Russia, Brazil and other BRICS, Sweden, Poland, Greenland and other Northeast countries or regions, Kazakhstan and other Central Asia countries, Papua New Guinea and other South Pacific countries also sent senior delegations to attend CHINA MINING 2012. Domestic and oversea participants were more extensive. There were not only representatives of international organization and transnational countries but also executives from domestic and oversea financial investment countries, large private enterprises and executives of associations. Ministers or Deputy Ministers from tens of countries also attended, which could be seen that the rank of officials were higher than before. More famous transnational companies attended CHINA MINING 2012 like BHP, Royal Dutch Shell, Anglo American, ALCOA, CODELCO, Swedish raw materials company, Eldorado Gold Corporation and Brazil’s Petrobras etc. According to the statistics, there were more than 80 foreign mining companies attended CHINA MINING 2012.

CHINA MINING 2013 still consists of 3 parts---conferences, exhibition and coherent events, whose themes are investment, cooperation and trade. Mining officials from home and abroad, industry leaders, experts and scholars etc. will be speaking in the conferences and having further discussion on mining policy and practice, mining development, mining and capital market, investment opportunity at home and abroad, mining and sustainable development, minerals, geological exploration and mining technology and equipment etc.

CHINA MINING 2013 Expo will have more display of achievements of mines exploration, new technology and equipments of mineral resources development, large and small mines machines, sophisticated instruments, samples of cores and minerals of important projects; will highlight mining rights exhibition area. Standard booth will be expected to more than 1400, exhibition area will exceed 26000 square meters. Except general mining area composed by standard booths, there will be mining country area, special construction area and international mines equipment area. 

China government believes that the imbalance of mineral resources distribution decides that no countries could rely on themselves to meet the need of development, so strengthen international cooperation is the necessary option. Mining Giants expect to meet in Tianjin Again

As the brand of foreign cooperation with China’s mining, CHINA MINING which is hosted by the Ministry of Land and Resources has become the important platform of getting technology information, exchanging development experience and promoting commercial cooperation for global mining industry after more than 10 years of developing.

It is said that CHINA MINING 2013 will hold Country investment activities of Australia, Canada, South Africa, Russia, Argentina, Peru, Greenland, Africa and Asia etc. and continuously hold Mining Regulatory Workshop of important mining countries like Australia.

Wangmin Met with Chief Executive Officer of British Petroleum Company

On April 18th, Wang Min, Vice Minister of Land and Resources, met with BP’s CEO Deli Dai in Beijing. The two sides talked about the development and cooperation of unconventional energy sources, such as shale gas, tight oil exploration.

Wang Min pointed out that shale gas, as a new energy, had great impact on the global energy consumption structure. China encourages the exploration and exploitation of dense oil, coal-bed methane, shale gas and other unconventional, low grade oil and gas resources, hoping to make full use of the emerging clean energy as soon as possible in China to strengthen energy resource’s supporting capability for economic and social development.

Wang Min said China would continue to adhere to the Reform and Opening Up and strengthen international cooperation. China would adhere to the "opening market, encouraging competition”, which would be the important policies and measures to accelerate China`s shale gas development. Besides, China would encourage foreign enterprises to participate in the development of unconventional energy, encourage the cooperation of foreign firms and Chinese companies, including technical services, environmental protection, water resources utilization, safety production, etc, within the scope of laws and regulations and policies.

Deli Dai said, as one of the world`s largest oil and gas companies, BP group believed in China`s potential in this area. Based on the prospect of China`s shale gas exploration and development, BP group would continue to be committed to the cooperation with relevant enterprises in China in this field.

China Become One of the World`s Superpower of Deep Crust Detection

“In the field of deep exploration research, China basically achieved keeping the pace of the world.” On April 16th, when the deep detection technology and experimental research of special report of 2012 annual results communication meeting held in Beijing, vice minister of land and resources, vice secretary of party, deputy chief supervisor of national land Xu Deming’s speech, made the hundreds of science and technology workers excited. Ding Zhongli, vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended.

According to introducing, deep detection technology and experimental research under special started in 2008, which is "the earth`s crust exploration project" breeding program. During the past five years, the Ministry of Land and Resources organized nearly thousands of scientists and engineering technicians and construction personnel at the front to participate in special and achieved fruitful results: Fully completed more than 6000 kilometers deep reflection seismic profile, which makes China become one of the world`s superpower of deep crust detection; Firstly established the mainland magneto-telluric standard network covering the whole country and the geochemical baseline network; Firstly systemic established complex continental lithosphere, the deep crust three-dimensional detection technology system; Initially formed a large ore concentration area of three-dimensional detection technique method system and demonstration area, and ore concentration area "transparent" technology is becoming better and approaching perfection day by day; Firstly established the largest geodynamics numerical simulation platform in our country, and set up the southeast margin of Qinghai-Tibet plateau deep hole stress monitoring area network today, which provides a new technical route for our country’s earth crust active monitoring and earthquake early-warning; Systematically organize the implementation of the deep detecting key instruments and major equipment research and development in domestic, which laid a solid foundation for deep exploration equipment localization of our country; scientifically drilled and created the record number of regional mineral resources exploration depth, detected a batch of strategic prospecting clues, which strongly support for the prospecting breakthrough strategic action. At the same time, special project also made a number of important discoveries, which provides a new scientific basis to solve some important scientific problems of continental crust and lithosphere of our country; explored a set of implementation management operation mode of "big science plan", formulated the scientific exploration and science popularization in parallel form of expression, a new model of data sharing and international cooperation and so on.

Xu Deming pointed out that the successful application of special deep exploration accelerated the pace of our country to be a stronger geological power. In the field of deep detection research, China basically achieved “be synchronous with the world”. At the same time, the implementation of "the earth`s crust exploration project" was also possessed and mature. Ministry of Land and Resources will further perfect "the earth`s crust exploration project" implementation plan; strive for an early start, to improve the ability of reducing the pressure on resources, environment and disaster.

This year is the last year of deep detecting specific implementation, Xu Deming emphasized to emphatically do five jobs: Firstly, to do a good job of special summary and results inspection, we have to emphasize the application value of deep special technology progress and important scientific discoveries in terms of actually solving important resources and environment problems, promoting the development of earth science, discipline construction and talent cultivation, and participating in international cooperation and competition, which will make a complete full stop for the end of the project; Secondly, to further closely round the big discovery and breakthrough in energy and mineral resources, we have to greatly enhance the deep detecting ability and accelerate the process of experimental and demonstration, providing strong scientific support for the comprehensive deployment of deep oil and gas exploration and opening up the second prospecting metal space; Thirdly, we have to further strengthen the management of funds using; Fourthly, to insist the open operation system unceasingly, we have to form a model of sectoral joint, multidisciplinary integration and university-industry cooperation; Fifthly, to complete deep detection technology and talent reserves as soon as possible, we have to build up the earth`s deep detection technology system, which lay a foundation for the plan of into earth of our country.

During the three-day reporting communication meeting, the participants communicated around the progress of science and technology. The delegates from relevant ministries and commissions such as The National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Seismological Bureau, National Natural Science Foundation and so on. Boao Forum for Asia Holds “the Shale Gas Revolution” Sub- Forum

The sub-forum “the Shale Gas Revolution: the New Power to Change Supply and Demand Pattern” of the Annual Conference 2013 of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) was held recently. The energy giants and the energy experts of china all said they favored the Shale Gas Exploitation of China.

Frank•Eng Sally，chairman of the board of Pacific Ocean Energy Development Company, expressed that America has been keeping the position of the first largest exporter in the world since 1982, but China has changed from the second largest exporter into the importer in the world. At the same time, China has become the first energy consumer after America in 2011.  “The Shale Gas Exploitation will take more opportunities for china” said Frank and he expected china can achieve self sufficiency in shale gas like America.

Robert D.Hormats, Deputy Secretary of State ,Economy, Energy Resources and agricultural business State, USA, reckoned the achievements of shale gas and shale oil in North America can be copied in other countries. The development of shale gas in America mainly depends on sufficient sources, and china also has the shale resources.
Ren Keying, China Regional chairman, the CEO of Bank of America Merrill Lynch called, ‘the future of Chinese shale gas is very bright.’ According to the relevant reports, the exploitable resource of Chinese shale gas is 1275 trillion cubic feet (36 trillion stere). Ren Keying said the figure is as much as American reserves. He hoped the government can support in encouraging exploitation, pricing mechanism, etc.
Zhang Guobao, director of the experts’ advisory committee of National energy sources Commission of China, also expressed the biggest advantage of Chinese shale gas is the abundant reserves at present.

The serves of Chinese shale gas has won many affirmations, but Chinese energy exerts admit the shale gas exploitation of china is “restricted”.
Gao Zimin, secretary of the Party committee of SHENZHEN ENERGY corporation, vice-chairman of China Entrepreneur Association, said: “ it is not so easy to copy American shale gas exploitation.” He said the geological distribution conditions of Chinese shale gas is more complex, as well as the utilization for water and land sources must be considered. Zhang Guobao said Chinese shale gas is imbedded more deeply than America, so the strengthened the study on scientific research and investigation and study should be strengthened more.
On exploitation technology, David Sandalow, the energy department`s acting Deputy Secretary, the assistant secretary of energy for policy, U.S. expressed the technology enterprises of America are willing to come to China.

Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada

On March 3, Local time , the 81th Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada was held in Toronto convention and exhibition center. More than 30,000 people from 135 countries around the world took part in the international mining industry event. People from More than 1,000 booths not only promoted the latest exploration investment projects, but also provided world`s most advanced mining technology, products, services, and mining laws and regulations. The keynote session provided the successful cases on mining enterprises` exploration development and management in a pragmatic style and predicted the future mining development situation. China`s ministry of land and resources organized government delegation and enterprise group to attend this annual meeting. The delegation conducted China`s mining publicity exhibition, such as bilateral talks with Canadian natural resources department, held mining investment forum with Canada, and promoted CHINA MINING 2013. Wang Min met with Minister of Mines,Energy and Water Conservancy Development of Zambia

On the morning of February 1, Zambia time, Mr. Wang Min, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources of China and Director of China Geological Survey, met with Mr. Yamfwa Mukanga , Minister of Mines, Energy and Water Conservancy Development, Zambia. The two parties exchanged opinions in the fields of geology and mining industry.

Wang Min, representing the Ministry of Land and Resources expressed his thanks for being invited to Zambia. He said, Zambia is the first country in South African that established diplomatic relation with new China, and the two countries have enjoyed profound traditional friendship especially the deep-going cooperation in the field of geology and mining for 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. In recent years, the competent departments of mining industry of the two countries have established close relationship, and Chinese mining investment projects in Zambia developed smoothly. Zambia has sent delegations to attend CHINA MINING for three years from 2009 to 2011. In February, 2010, a memorandum of understanding on geology and mining cooperation was signed in Beijing between the ministry of land and resources, PRC and the mining and mineral development ministry, Zambia. For the further cooperation, Wang Min suggested that both sides should maintain high-level exchanges, carry out the memorandum, further the geological survey and technical cooperation, and strengthen inter-ministerial communication to promote the enterprise cooperation, strengthen information sharing, and establish a geological database. Finally, on behalf of the ministry of land and resources, PRC, Wang Min invited穆坎加 and his delegation to attend CHINA MINING 2013 which will be held in November,2013.

Yamfwa Mukanga gave a warm welcome to Wang Min and delegation that he led and gladly accepted the invitation. He said that Chinese companies, which invested in Zambia`s mining development had actively performed their community responsibility and promoted local economic and social development. He hoped that Zambia would like to have more support and help from China in geological mapping, mining data monitoring, comprehensive utilization of mineral, the processing and auction of gem and jade, and exploration of oil and gas, etc.

Sino-Canada Mining Investment Forum, a normalized platform between China and Canada mining cooperation, was held in Toronto on March 5th. It has become a fixed project in PDAC. The Canada’s mining companies introduced 28 mining projects at advanced stage to the China’s mining companies and investors. These projects are distributed in 9 Canadian provinces, including precious metal, non-ferrous metals, iron and rare earth.

Jiang Jianjun, the head of China delegation and director of the Department of International Cooperation & Science and Technology under Ministry of Land and Resources, PRC, said in his speech that China would further strengthen the mining open up and cooperation in mining areas, make the efforts to strengthen development and cooperation with foreign mining circles. He also encouraged and supported domestic enterprises with good credit and strong power to participate in international mining cooperation, actively develop mining cooperation projects which are conducive to local sustainable development. China and Canada are both important mining countries in the world and have strong complementarity and broad cooperation chance. He suggested that we should grasp the current opportunities for cooperation, strengthen project-matching, and promote substantial projects cooperation; consolidate cooperation platform, promote the normal communication between enterprises, make full use of cooperative mechanism between departments and strengthen the two-way cooperation services and guidance; broaden cooperation area, expand cooperation in green mining areas, fully develop the potential of the green mining technology and governance of mining environment.

Anil Arora, Assistant Deputy Minister of Minerals and Metals Sector, Natural Resources, Canada, introduced Canada’s superior resource conditions and mining investment environment, and welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest there. He specially pointed out that Canada would do more research of energy and resources in the north of Canada in the next 5 years and get more geosciences data to provide the basis for more accurate decision.

Yu Jianwei, Commercial Consul of the Consulate General of China in Toronto, suggested that Chinese enterprises should fully carry out prophase investigation  and field study and minimize the risk as much as possible. He also suggested Chinese enterprises “when in Rome do as Romans do”, run legally, be deferential to local rules and regulations and take aborigines, environmental protection, labor and community contribution etc., into consideration. （Liu Wei, Liang Mingzhe）（translated by TLRHVC）

- platform of dialogue between high level businessmen and government officials In order to give wide publicity to the international mining industry, introduce our government’s work in improving the investment environment in the mining industry, and promote mining enterprises cooperation, the Ministry of Land and Resources in 1999 began to continuously hold CHINA MINING international seminar, from 2005 called "CHINA MINING", and so far, the congress has been held successfully for the 13 years. As China`s mining foreign cooperation brand, Asia`s largest mining event and global one of four big mining conference, CHINA MINING has become an important platform for Chinese and foreign mining companies and related agencies to obtain industry information, and look for the opportunities for cooperation, and it has been highly valued. Over the past 13 years, covered the whole mining industry chain’s each link, this event is on larger and larger scale, with higher level and richer content. Moreover it has continuously innovated form, increasingly perfect function, and gradually improving internationalization. With the aid of this platform, China`s mining industry and international mining have a good communication and fusion in the dialogue. Focus: China`s mining industry to seek new breakthroughs This conference, which is called "International Seminar on CHINA MINING Regulations", has opened a new chapter of China`s mining industry to the world. From Canada, Australia, and other 10 countries and regions more than 170 delegates attended the meeting. On the meeting, the delegates fully discussed the problems on how to perfect China`s mining laws and regulations, improve the mining investment environment, and how the foreign capitals in the Chinese market succeed, and etc. During the meeting, the Ministry of Land and Resources issued 19 ore fields for the first time as the choices for foreign investment and development. The meeting proposed that the mineral exploration and development should be improved, the level of opening up in the western region of mineral exploration efforts should be enhanced, and China`s mining industry gravity center should be moved to west step by step. Focus: Entry into the WTO, opportunities and challenges for CHINA MINING This conference is called “International Seminar on CHINA MINING 2002”. The meeting demonstrated clearly that our government would positively fulfill the commitment of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, adapt to the requirements of the WTO rules, and purify mining development environment. From 16 countries and regions more than 200 delegates attended the meeting, including foreign representative 109 people. Representatives from the World Bank Group and APEC member economies and people from domestic mining industry together had a deep discussion on a series of strategic issues including global and local mining development trend, the development of China’s mining industry, mining financing and mine development after China`s accession to the WTO, as well as policies for foreign investments in CHINA MINING. Focus: gradually implement "bringing in" and "going out" strategy of resources Named "International Seminar on CHINA MINING 2003", this conference was held under the background of the successfully held APEC leaders` informal meeting and the ASEAN business and investment summit. In the seminar issues around the Chinese mining policy evolution and regional mining cooperation were discussed. More than 300 delegates from 14 countries and regions attended the meeting, including 140foreign representatives. Focus: Mining Go to Recovery This conference is called “International Seminar on CHINA MINING 2004”. After long years of slump, Both CHINA MINING and global mining began to recovery. To strengthen cooperation and communication became the priority of China`s mining development. The congress proposed new measures to guide the healthy development of the mining and promote coordination between mining exploration and development and environmental protection. The conference got the support of China National Development and Reform Commission, China Ministry of finance, the Ministry of Commerce, China, World Bank Group, Canadian Embassy and Australian Embassy. The main conference topics covered mining financing, the main mining countries’ mining overview, CHINA MINING policies and laws and regulations, the discovery of China`s mineral resources and business opportunity discussion, enterprises case study and analysis, minerals market outlook, etc. For the first time this conference organized an important exhibition in which both domestic and foreign exhibitors participated at the same time. Exhibition content involves all around resources projects, mining technology and equipment, financial services, and other related services to the mining enterprise forming a complete industrial chain. A total of more than 1000 representatives from home and abroad attended the meeting including over 500 foreign delegates from nearly 30 countries and regions. The Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan attended the opening ceremony and made an important speech in which he comprehensively elaborated the policies for China`s realization of the sustainable development of mining and called for through strengthening cooperation to promote global mining and economic prosperity. Focus: CHINA MINING has become one of the world’s TOP 4 mining events. "CHINA MINING" as the name of this conference appeared for the first time. From the beginning of this conference, CHINA MINING has become one of the world’s TOP 4 mining events Zeng Peiyan, then Vice Premier, sent a congratulatory letter to the congress. The congress organized 14 seminars around the topics including China`s mining policy, global mining review and outlook, minerals mining market, new theory and new technology, mining financing, China and neighboring countries mining investment opportunity, mine safety and environment. CEO Forum is especially attractive. During the conference the provinces and the geological exploration departments’ mineral right information seminars were also held, showing that China`s mining right market is more actively open to the world. Nearly 2000 representatives from more than twenty countries and regions participated in the congress, two-thirds of which were foreign delegates. CHINA MINING 2005 featured 150 exhibitors from over 15 countries.

Focus: To promote the healthy development of China and the global mining industry The congress set up eight different parts including: China`s Mining Policy: Announcement and Outlook; Global Investment Trends and Commodities Outlook; Risk Management; Opportunities and Company Presentations; Sustainability and the Environment; China`s Mining Environment; Trends in Ore Processing, Metallurgy and Transportation; Trends in Exploration and Mining Technology. At the same time, the congress also held Ministers` Forum, CEO Forum, Countries and Regions Forum, Outbound Investment Forum, and Mining Suppliers Forum. During the conference, it also held exhibition activities in Trade Show Area, Countries Area, Chinese Government Area and Mining Equipment Area. Trade Show Area attracted a lot of foreign and domestic companies, including mining and exploration companies, mining technique and equipment suppliers, geologists as well as banks and legal consulting firms. Ministry of Land and Resources as a representative, the government area appeared for the first time. Zeng Peiyan, then Vice Premier, attended the congress and delivered an important speech. Speech made it clear that China will unswervingly pursue the opening-up policy, implement mutually beneficial and win-win mining opening strategy. From this session, the congress set up Annual Outstanding Achievement Awards of CHINA MINING aimed at summing up successful experience of Sino-foreign joint venture and cooperation in mineral exploration and development fields, set up good examples of foreign cooperation, and show the opening-up new image of Chinese mining industry to the international mining industry. Three projects shared this year`s Best International Cooperation Exploration Award, the Best International Cooperation Development Award, and the Best International Cooperation Environmental Protection Award. There is one organization which won the Best International Cooperation Service Award, while this year`s Best International Cooperation Technology Innovation Award was in vacancy. More than 2000 delegates from over twenty countries and regions attended the meeting, and more than 160 exhibitors at home and abroad were attracted to exhibition. Overseas representatives amounted to more than half of the total, of which mining ministers of Canada and other four countries delivered a speech on Foreign Mining Ministerial Forum. Focus: Green mining ideas enjoy popular support. In this congress such issues as green mining policy, resource efficient utilization, mining environment and mining safety and international minerals market were discussed, and thus contribution was made on promoting mining’s economy, cleaning, security and sustainable development, and the world mining boom. Zeng Peiyan, then Vice Premier, sent a congratulation letter to the congress. He pointed out that the Chinese government will implement the scientific outlook on development, vigorously develop the green mining, further deepening mining international cooperation, and make new contribution on promoting the sustainable development of mining. The congress set the main sessions and parallel sessions, among which the main sessions set Ministers` Forum, Chinese and International Mining Industry Trends Forum, CEO Forum, Global Commodities Trends Forum. In the parallel sessions of eighteen issues, the Ministry of Land and Resources organized four sessions: “Roundtable Discussion: The Practice of China`s Mining Policy ”, "The Development and Use of Coalbed Methane in China ", " The Valuation of Mining Projects and Internationalization ", "Basic Geological Survey and the Achievement of Ore Prospecting ". Exhibitors from mining companies, investment and financing organizations, evaluation consultation companies, technology services companies, equipment companies from all over the world through the personalized demonstration promoted the cooperation in the fields of exploration and development, investment, and equipment technology. More than 3000 delegates from over 30 countries and regions attended the congress and more than 240 domestic and foreign enterprises participated in various forms of display. In this congress many issues were deeply discussed including the development trend of mining industry and investment policy plan, as well as new theories and technologies on mining development, and mine responsibility, etc. More than 3200 government officials, experts and scholars, and representatives of business and financial circles from more than forty countries and regions participated in it. Vice premier Li Keqiang sent congratulatory letter to this congress. He stressed that China, as an important mineral resources producer and consumer, will continue to promote technological innovation, optimize resource development, and improve efficiency of resource utilization; continue to expand the mining areas of opening to the outside world, actively create favorable conditions, promote the establishment of dialogue and consultation mechanism between the world mineral producers and consumers, and make due contributions for the global mining continued prosperity and sustainable economic and social development. Besides the congress also specially set up many minerals subjects for deeply analyzing and discussing related popular minerals, such as gold and iron ore forums. Focus: Increase geological prospecting efforts, inject new vitality for global mining recovery In the congress many issues such as the global mineral exploration and development situation and progress under the influence of the international financial crisis, regional mining development, and international mining cooperation were deeply discussed. In the congratulations letter, Vice Premier Li Keqiang pointed out that China will base on domestic market, increase the geological prospecting efforts, and adhere to the opening-up, and expand the international cooperation. The mining industry countries should seize the opportunity, and promote the international mining stability and prosperity of the world economic recovery and development. The congress consisted of Summit Forum, Exhibitions and Featured Events, and introduced 17 topics, 23 sessions, 420 booths. 3500 delegates from more than fifty countries and regions attended the conference. During the meeting, mining leaders from 12 countries including Canada, Australia and ambassador of ten countries such as South Africa, Mongolia and senior management at home and abroad from more than 80 important mining companies and well-known financial institutions like World Bank Group, JP Morgan, etc. discussed the global mining development trend and challenges and opportunities of mining development. Focus: Base on the domestic development and strengthen international cooperation The topics of the conference covered the global mining industry sustainable development, mineral resources exploration situation and progress, mining industry and capital market, the mine geological environment and green mining, etc. During the congress, many mining cooperation project promotion and negotiation activities and large mining exhibition activities were also held. Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the congress and delivered an important speech. He pointed out that China would adhere to the scientific development, accelerate the transformation of the mode of economic development requirements, combine the domestic development and international cooperation, make full use of the "two markets", "two resources", and enhance the economic and social development of the energy resources support capacity. A total of more than 4000 people including the government officials, experts and scholars and representatives of mining enterprises, financial institutions from more than fifty countries and regions attended the meeting. On the project investment signing ceremony, a total of 62 projects were signed amounting to RMB 11.7 billion. The signed projects mainly distributed in China, Australia, Nigeria, Zambia, Mongolia and other countries, involving in the minerals of copper, iron, gold, lead, zinc, etc. The congress awarded respectively organizations and enterprises that won Annual Outstanding Achievement Awards of CHINA MINING of this year. Focus: Improve the minerals security ability and utilization efficiency The conference had theme forums, mining development high-level forums as well as 21 special topic forums, 23 Breakout Sessions and 7 project promotion conferences. A total of over 4800 people from more than 50 countries and regions attended the conference. The conference had in-depth mining discussions on topics covered Sustainable Mining, The global mineral exploration situation and progress, The mining industry and capital market, mining environment and green mining, mineral resources comprehensive utilization. Obert Mpofu, Minister of Mines and Mineral Development, The Republic of Zimbabwe; Akhom Tounalom, Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, The Lao People`s Democratic Republic; Oyun Erdenbulgan, Deputy Minister of Miners, Mongolia,; Voe Karl Berthelsen Minister ,Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum,Greenland and other foreign guests attended the meeting. In order to support and guarantee the sustainable development of the human society with the limited mineral resources, meet the needs of contemporary people, and also leave the survival and development space for future generations, "symbiosis" should become a value concept of global mining. CHINA MINING 2011 issue a total of five Annual Outstanding Achievement Awards of CHINA MINING, including Prospection and Exploration Outstanding Achievements Award, Mine Development Outstanding Achievements Award, Mining Environmental Protection Outstanding Achievements Award, Technological Innovation Outstanding Achievements Award, Governmental Support Outstanding Achievements Award. The negotiations and the signed agreement project amounted to 485 items, among which 55 projects carry out essential matching at the signing ceremony, with contract amount of RMB 15.7 billion. And compared to project matching achievement of CHINA MINING 2010, the on-site project signing amount was 4 billion Yuan more than it in last year, though 7 projects fewer, which reflected the trend of the scale development in international mining cooperation.
